God Bless America
As I remember 9/11, I find myself saddened this morning. For the innocent lives lost. The terror struck. The ugliness ignited by acts so cruel.
I remember sitting in class, (maybe 1st or 2nd period) and news flooded into room. I can't remember if it was a student or a teacher that told us it had happened, I just remember feeling scared. We were dismissed from school and told to go straight home & stay away from downtown. I remember calling my momma; I remember telling her to get home.
I remember the fear.
In the aftermath, I remember feeling hopeful. I remember feeling a bond with my fellow man. I remember a spirit of promise being invoked, a strong sense of patriotism that followed well into the months ahead. It was on the television, in books, on pages of magazines, but most of all it was in our hearts.
I remember having faith.
As we go forth today (and always) we shall remember 9/11 not only as a day of mourning, but as a day symbolic of faith, hope, and love for our nation.
