Shark Attack!!!!... No Just Shark Teeth!

Recently, I've had the pleasure of learning what dentists have coined "sharks teeth" really is!

It was a busy Monday Morning (as MOST Mondays go), when I was giving my precious daughter (who happened to not be acting very precious at that moment) some allergy medicine. I noticed as she opened her mouth to take her medicine that her gums were very swollen and there was a white spot on them. Now at first glace, I thought it was strep throat (a battle/war we faced the summer before)! One of her main symptoms was small white spots that appeared on her tongue, inner mouth, & gums. But what I had seen was only on her gums and there was only ONE spot!!!

So...being as "hands on" as I am and every bit as invasive as my mom was, I reach in and touched it! It was solid!!!! OMG, it was a TOOTH! Now, my daughter hasn't grown teeth in over two years, but low and behold, she was growing new teeth! And to make matters even more strange, it was growing behind a tooth that was already there!

 I instantly freaked out and yelled for my husband to come & take a look. He agreed, "yup, it's a tooth"! In my mind, I had an emergency here. So I did the ONLY thing I could do in that moment:

I GOOGLED IT!!!

I HAD to know what this was. I needed to see how serious it was! I needed to KNOW that this wasn't some weird freakish accident that happen to 1 in 5 million kids. 

Aaaah...(my light bulb moment after my google search) Now the name makes PERFECT sense! Sharks have two rows of teeth that seem to be fighting each other for territory (space)!

I learned that it is VERY common in children (1 in 10 children will develop "shark teeth") and that usually the "old/baby" teeth will fall out on their own. I don't know why this happened to my MiMi, but it did. She's part of the lucky 10%, I guess! So moms, aunts, sisters, & friends, don't worry if this happens to a little person you know, It's common!
