When life gives you lemons....Squeeze those suckers into some hot tea!!!

Having a cold can give you the BLUES!!! Especially, if you're a mom! We ALL know having a family is a huge responsibility and for most mothers we don't have the luxury of "taking a day off." We keep trucking along, until we can't anymore!

I have a few tips on Catching a Cold before the Cold catches YOU:

Take your Vitamins! Even though you should have been taking these daily, if you by chance haven't been, start right away. If you have been taking them (kudos!), but load up on the vitamin C, vitamin B, & Zinc!!! These vitamins are located in most multivitamins anyway, and can also be found in cough drops and throat lozenges. My favorite vitamin C source is 100% orange juice! (I LOVE Simply Orange!!! http://www.simplyorangejuice.com )

(TRY to) Get some REST!  I know, trust me, I KNOW this can be difficult when you have a family to take care of, but it is necessary when you begin to feel ill. On the night you need to get some rest, rent a movie (Redbox is GREAT for a quick, and cheap DVD/Blu-ray rentals http://www.redbox.com - $1.00 - $1.50 per night) & feed the family either take-out or grab a take-n-bake pizza from your local grocery store. You can pick up a bagged salad, too if you're worried about the kiddies getting their nutrition. Explain to your loved ones that if Mommy doesn't get rest, this cold is going to take you over! They probably will be too distracted by pizza and the movie to even hear you. That will buy you at the very least 2 hrs of uninterrupted sleep and/or relaxation.

Drinks LOADS of H2O!!! When you get sick, water is your new BFF! You and her should never part! If you feel thirsty drink a full cup, and then another, and once again, another! If after 3 cups you STILL feel thirsty, grab a Gatorade, Vitamin Water, or Powerade! This will help get some electrolytes back in your body! This will help your body re-hydrate or replenish any water that has been lost. Also, if you feel like eating, keep it light. A salad or a broth based soup is a great alternative to a full meal. Have your small meal with a piece of bread or a handful of crackers.

Nine times out of Ten, if you feel a cold coming on, you're pretty tired at this point anyway, and you might even be a little achy. Fill up on your vitamins, down lots of water, take a tylenol, and REST up!!! These little steps have helped me in the past! As with most things in life, this isn't 100%! I am not a medical doctor, but I am a mom, always under constant stress and always being pushed to her limits. And lets face it, every little bit of advice helps!!!

Until next time,
Get some R&R.
