Hail hath so much fury...A Garden Scorned!

This past Saturday, I visited a place very near & dear to my heart with 3 of my favorite people. But to give a little background to this mini post…

On June 30, 2011 a huge hail storm gripped the West-Side of Chicago and damaged not only cars (mine included), but one of Chicago’s gems, The Garfield Park Conservatory.  Sadly, the News never really reported the damage that affected so many people in my community. And the only reports made were those in regards to the Conservatory.

This Saturday was the first time my girls & I had been since early spring. Not that it isn’t close or easy to get to, but mainly because I was afraid to see such a wonderful & magical place destroyed. I was so sad about this all summer long. So on Saturday, we were brave!!! Me & one of my best friends in the world went, and had a great time!!! The Fern Room was awesome and the outdoor gardens were breathtaking.

I’m glad to report to you and the world, that the damage I could see wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Needless-to-say, there were 2-3 room completely blocked off, and in that case, the damage could have been severe! Two of my absolute favorite rooms were fine and were getting repaired.

This repair project is going to take some time. It is very labor intensive, and will require a lot of monetary backing. The GPC can use all the help they can get.  They are accepting donations online and in-person. It’s free admission, so go check it out! You might just fall in love with this wonderful place like me & girls have.

If you would like to visit The Garfield Park Conservatory, check them out at http://www.garfield-conservatory.org/.

Or if you would like to help with donations in their extensive repair project, please visit http://www.garfieldconservatory.org/donate_online.htm.

Until next Time,
Breathe Deeply.
